My friend left his tobacco on an old table in our backyard.
He was only away a few seconds but when he came back, it was smoldering.
We were the only people around.
What could this be and is there another explanation?

You didn’t mention what the weather was like? What was the table made of? Was it a bright sunny day and was there a lot of glass around?
